Right now, there are no commercial products proven even remotely effective in repelling reptiles. The best methods of repelling snakes are what I guess you would term "Keeping a Clean Yard". The only effective methods are those that make your property a place where the animals simply will not want to live.

These methods include the two most important aspects of suitable reptilian habitat. A.) Cover, and access to hiding places, limiting stress. Also access to suitable dens for brumating over winter. Or, access to cluttered areas or deep structural hiding places. B.) Food. The seed from bird-feeders or domestic animal food, as well as compost and other food or waste sources, may attract rodents or insects or other prey items that common snake species feed on. D.) Is water. Rain-water filled containers, permanent ponds, springs or access to water-sources provides ideal habitat for most common snake species.

Clearing a yard or foundation around a structural building alone is very effective in keeping nuisance snake specie away. Also watch where and how waste products are disposed of and how to eliminate the animal’s food source on your property. It is far more effective to target the snake’s food, than the snakes themselves.

Explain your property a bit for me. What scenarios might you encounter Copperheads on your property, and under what conditions?

Take Care,

-John Mendrola. (P.W.H.S. President.)
